Gerry Enrico honed his artistic talents from his elementary and high school years in the Philippines where he was born. There he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Northern Philippines in 1987. After college, he helped to establish an advertising firm, where he put his drawing abilities to work in commercial logo designs. Awarded in several prestigious national art contests in his native country, Gerry moved to Palm Springs, CA in 1990 where he also became known as an artist. He won every major art competition in Palm Springs and is a member of the Artist Council of the Palm Springs Desert Museum. Gerry joined us in the Appalachian region over three years ago, and has already gained artistic attention. During the 2006 FAC annual Festival Competition, Gerry received Best of show in the professional division and gained popularity and respect within the community for his photographic-quality charcoal and pastel drawings. He works in several genres of art including acrylic and oil painting, and often uses his ponytail instead of a brush. “I am portraying the struggles of an artist…I can’t afford a brush,” Gerry will jokingly state. His surrealism and abstract expressionism gain inspiration from great masters like Salvador Dali and Vincent Van Gogh, but Gerry looks toward his daughter for strength of emotions and expressions, which overflow into his work. |
